Sophia Martinez

~ Photographer in Training

Sophia (17 years old), born in Mcallen, Texas. Raised in the SDM world, naturally, Sophia grew up with a deep love for wildlife and the outdoors. She spends a part of her year helping crew DM's expeditions, learning about conservation, and working on her photography.

Sophia began traveling with her parents on boats at the age of 5, sparking Sophia's passion for wildlife and the need to protect them. She quickly decided to become a wildlife photographer, specializing in aquatic and predatory species, such as wildcats, sharks, and bears.

Seeing how passionate Sophia was about the wild world, her parents decided to homeschool her for a few years, bringing her on every available trip. She is currently enrolled in public high school, wanting to enjoy a few years of just being a kid, before she dives deeper into the conservation world.

Sophia became a certified diver at the age of 10 and has been crazy about diving ever since. She held the title of being the youngest diver to dive Shark Reef off of Bega Lagoon, Fiji.

Her hope is to increase awareness and appreciation of our natural world, and the need to protect our remaining wild places through her photography and storytelling. Her photography is of wildlife in their natural environment. Roaming wild and free is the only way she wants to capture images of them. Her work involves tight close-ups as well as a stud of animal behavior in their natural environment. You can follow her never ending adventures on her socials.
